Top 8 Best HDMI Audio Extractors & Ultimate Buying Guide In 2022

The best HDMI audio extractors are required if you are an audiophile who prefers to listen to music from HDMI-only devices like Apple TV, Roku, and other streaming devices. In this perfect guide, we review the top 8 best HDMI audio extractors for you to decide which one suits you the best.

You need the Best HDMI Audio Extractors for music in your home theater space. A high-quality HDMI audio extractor can separate HDMI input signals into HDMI output and audio output. Using HDMI audio extractors, you can also broadcast audio from HDMI-only devices to analog-only audio receivers.

While most HDMI audio extractors on the market only provide a 3.5 mm and RCA analog stereo signal output, some models also provide an analog 7.1 audio output.

Therefore, the best audiophile headphones and a good HDMI audio extractor are required if you are an audiophile who prefers to listen to music from HDMI-only devices like Apple TV, Roku, and other streaming devices.

Even so, you might not be an expert at choosing the best HDMI audio extractor, even if you are an audiophile. Our audio experts tested more than 30 HDMI audio extractors available to help you make an informed purchase.

After extensive testing, they selected 5 HDMI audio extractors that offer excellent performance and high-quality audio.

The top 5 HDMI audio extractors will be reviewed in-depth in this guide, along with their benefits and drawbacks. The FAQ section will also include more information on HDMI audio extractors. Read on to learn more.

What Is The Purpose of The HDMI Audio Extractor?

The goal of HDMI Audio extractors is fairly straightforward. The HDMI audio source is connected to these extractors. They can detach the audio from the video and send it to an audio output device (such as a speaker system) or a different device without an HDMI input (AV or stereo receiver, Bluetooth transmitter, etc.). While some HDMI extractors only output audio, others can output audio and video.

When creating a sizable home theater setup with a Blu-ray player, projector, and 5.1 surround sound speakers, an HDMI audio extractor can be useful (or a powered stereo speaker system).

You need an audio extractor to separate the Blu-ray player signal, send video to the projector, and send audio to your AV receiver because most projectors lack audio extractors or, in some cases, only have AUX or RCA audio outputs (or to your powered stereo speakers).

Additionally, if your TV doesn’t have enough HDMI inputs for all the devices you want to connect (such as gaming consoles, TV sticks, cable boxes, etc.), use an extractor with multiple HDMI inputs; one HDMI output is a practical and affordable solution.

In this instance, the extractor acts as a switch between various gadgets.

Things To Consider in Buying the Best HDMI Audio Extractor

Here are some of the things that you need to consider in buying the best HDMI Audio Extractor:

Audio Controls

With its three AudioEDID settings, the HDMI Audio Extractor (JTDAT5CH) offers the greatest flexibility thanks to an EDID Audio switch that can be switched between 2CH, 5.1CH, or pass.

Because it supports the highest video resolution input up to 1080p @ 60Hz and an HDMI output of 1080p @ 60Hz, you won’t lose the video’s quality. It also supports LPCM, DTS Digital, Dolby Digital, 3D video, and compressed and uncompressed audio.

Compatibility and Usability

For video, you should use an HDMI to HDMI cable; an HDMI to DVI or VGA cable may result in no audio output. Satellite receivers, Apple TVs, and Blu-ray players are all supported by this gadget.

Additionally, plug-and-play, Video EDID Pass-Through, and HDCP are supported.

If you want 3D video, all media devices connected to the Extractor output must support it.

Explaining the 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a, 1.3, 1.4, 2, 2.0a, 2.1, and HDMI eARC versions of the HDMI standard

HDMI 1.0:

The original HDMI 1.0 specification is only compatible with a single-channel digital audio/video connection. This 165 MHz-wide, 4.9 Gbps-capable single-channel digital audio/video channel has a capacity (of enough for 1080p video). This version, which only supports two audio channels, was first released in December 2002.

HDMI 1.1:

This version, released in May 2004, also includes support for multi-channel audio for DVD-Audio (up to 5.1 channels).

HDMI 1.2:

SACD and other multi-channel single-bit audio formats are compatible with HDMI 1.2. (Super Audio CD). In this version, HDMI connectors for PCs are also supported. HDMI 1.2 or later is required to meet the low-voltage devices’ display needs. The official release date of HDMI 1.2 is August 2005.

HDMI 1.2a:

Fully defined commands for remote control and Consumer Electronics Control are provided by HDMI 1.2a (CEC). Long cable manufacturers are required to perform additional testing. All HDMI connectors must be approved and verified by HDMI Licensing, LLC, to pass 1.2a testing. The release of HDMI 1.2a is scheduled for December 2005.

HDMI 1.3:

For 3D video, in particular, HDMI 1.3 offers a high bitrate of up to 10.2 Gb/s and an increased bandwidth of up to 340 MHz. The setup is based on the Deep Color standard, which supports 16-bit, 12-bit, and 10-bit colors instead of only 8-bit colors in earlier iterations. HDMI supports more than one billion different color combinations.

(Note: Since the color information is based on the primary colors red, green, and blue, you may occasionally experience a 1.3x enhanced color depth, also referred to as 30-bit, 36-bit, and 48-bit.)

With 1.8 times more color support than current HDTV signals, HDMI 1.3 now supports the xvYCC Advanced Color Space Standard. Modern commercial video content does not use deep color or xvColor.)

New lossless compressed digital audio formats (True HD and DT-HD Master AudioTM) are output by HDMI 1.3. These audio formats are decoded using a compatible audio/video receiver.

Automatic Built-In “lip-sync” control allows for fantastic audio/video synchronization. A new mini-connector has also been introduced to work with smaller devices like digital cameras and camcorders. In June 2006, a mini-connector was introduced.

An upgrade was also added with the update from version 1.3 to version 1.3a and then 1.3b. As a user, you won’t notice any differences between versions 1.3, 1.3a, or 1.3b. These versions differ slightly in terms of functionality and characteristics and are primarily due to testing and manufacturing issues.

If you’re considering purchasing a new 4K TV, you can choose any HDMI cable designated as “high-speed” for transmitting 4K video signals.

HDMI 1.4:

Ethernet connectivity is a feature of the 2009-released HDMI 1.4 cable. HDMI 1.4 cable can make use of the connection between one HDMI 1.4 device and your home network.

Sound from your TV tuner to your home theater receiver works flawlessly over HDMI 1.4. The HDMI inputs equipped with this ARC (Audio Return Channel) feature are the best option for users who want to enjoy their high-definition programs with surround sound while receiving them over an antenna. The release of HDMI 1.4 was in 2009.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about the best HDMI audio extractor:

How do I turn the audio from HDMI into analog?

An HDMI audio extractor or HDMI switch with an audio extractor is required to convert HDMI audio to AUX/RCA analog audio. When an audio and video signal is received from a source (such as a Blu-ray player, cable box, DVD player, etc.), this device separates it into an audio signal and a video signal. The extractor then transmits the video to your TV, projector, or other video output device while simultaneously sending the audio to speakers.

Why would you use an HDMI audio extractor?

Without compromising the quality of the HDMI video, an HDMI audio extractor sends audio from one HDMI device to another. Consequently, you can play audio through a variety of playback equipment.

Work the HDMI audio extractors?

Yes, HDMI audio extractors are functional. Our list’s top 5 HDMI audio extractors offer good performance and audio/video quality. They are simple to set up and use.

What is SPDIF audio out?

High-quality digital audio can be broadcast using the SPDIF, or Sony Philips Digital Interface, without an analog conversion process. Coaxial (using RCA connectors) and optical are the two ways to implement the SPDIF interface (with TOSLINK connectors).

What is HDMI ARC?

Receivers, TVs, and soundbars have HDMI ARC or Audio Return Channels. Through a single HDMI connection, this feature enables two-way communication between devices. The HDMI ARC port enables you to use HDMI for both audio input and output.

Which HDMI audio extractor is the best?

The J-Tech Digital 4K 60Hz HDMI Audio Extractor converter SPDIF + 3.5 mm Output: Best HDMI Audio Extractor 4K 60Hz is the best HDMI audio extractor out of all the ones we’ve reviewed in our guide. Excellent audio and video quality are delivered and compatible with various devices.

Conclusion

There you have it, then. These HDMI audio extractors are among the best. Even though they all appear to function similarly, their quality varies. Although I’ve done my best to highlight each device’s features, you can also read customer reviews to find out what other users say about the gadget.

The iArk power HDMI Audio Extractor is what I would choose because it improves the quality of the sound by acting as both an extractor and a splitter. It is a versatile extractor because it outputs in three different formats: SPDIF, HDMI, and RCA. Since these models frequently run out of stock, you have various options.
